This is the story of Jag and her dog Johnny, as told by Jag to Laurène Marx.
Jag comes from the white rural working-class. She talks about the house she grew up in, her aunts and uncles, and recounts birthdays in the village hall, weddings, the dysfunctional family cocoon, TV culture and alcoholism.
Caught between two classes, like a vagabond, Jag dives into her past, with all the complexity that entails.
The combination of Laurène's language and Jag's phrasing creates a powerful, rhythmic speech, charged with experiences that moves us from laughter to tears.
