Malthus is a singer, multi-instrumentalist, producer, director, and choreographer from the suburbs of Liverpool. With a voice reminiscent of Anohni and an aesthetic akin to the exciting current Manchester scene embodied by artists like Space Afrika, Iceboy Violet, Blackhaine, and Rainy Miller, this versatile artist creates alternative and cinematic soul music that rubs shoulders with cataclysmic blues and atonal orchestral pieces. This is evident in his EP Convulsions and its beautiful accompanying 18-minute film, a nocturnal saga that is both beautiful, dark, and uncomfortable. With one foot in rave culture and the other in songwriting, Malthus’ unique compositions transform into expressive and soulful performances on stage.
