MC Carol

Baile are blazing outdoor parties which, despite frequent attempts by the authorities to ban this form of event, are an integral part of daily life in the favelas, where DJs and powerful sound systems vibrate until the early hours of the morning. It's at these same illegal parties that MC Carol has established herself as a key figure. The “funk” we're talking about here is an evolution of Miami Bass, born in Rio in the 1980s, which has become a platform of expression for many of Brazil's most disadvantaged populations. MC Carol is known for her humorous lyrics on subjects such as sexuality, feminism and the everyday situations she observes in the favela where she grew up. For her first appearance at La Cité, the motto is: Baile!
